TOWER COMES DOWN IN CHELTENHAM – This is not the leaning tower of Pisa but the tower of the old Cheltenham Grammar School……………..the majestic tower, almost 70 feet high, tumbled to the ground in a welter of dust, bricks and mortar.  The tower was demolished by only four men – and no dynamite was needed.  The men simply took a large chunk out of the foot of the tower and then, when cracks began to appear, they put in a wedge to make it fall in the right direction (The Echo Monday April 3 1967)
