TOWER COMES DOWN IN CHELTENHAM – This is not the leaning tower of Pisa but the tower of the old Cheltenham Grammar School……………..the majestic tower, almost 70 feet high, tumbled to the ground in a welter of dust, bricks and mortar.  The tower was demolished by only four men – and no dynamite was needed.  The men simply took a large chunk out of the foot of the tower and then, when cracks began to appear, they put in a wedge to make it fall in the right direction (The Echo Monday April 3 1967)

“archetypal stratification is horizontal and scaleless: it ignores vertical and radial processes of osmosis, seepage, erosion and siltage.  It knows nothing at a microscopic level of the phenomenon of surface tension or the colloidal matter that exploits it” (Paul Carter)

Exhibition Respondent Opportunity

We are looking for an emerging artist, art curator or arts writer to act as respondent for the private view of an exhibition in Cheltenham on Thursday 8th May 2014.  ‘…..On Land, a conversation’ is a collaboration between four MA Fine Art Students.  The exhibition explores connections between their practices and points of departure around the subject of land.  The respondent will lead a discussion between the four artists and the audience on the subject of land in art with particular reference to the works on show.  For further information please contact Elaine Fisher elaineyfish@live.co.uk or Anna Curtin acurtin54@gmail.com

Renderings 1, Limited edition giclee print

In Renderings, photographic images of empty buildings have been transferred.  The process of transition has revealed layers within the images.  The separation of pigment together with the decaying paint and concrete surfaces, onto which the images were transferred, combine to form new images – traces of the buildings and also of the work.
